The latest from BOBnd margaritas, ands.
Our first race day of the spring regatta was cold, wet and windy. Several folks didn't race. Bogy was ill, Rendezvous had boat problems and Coram Deo was out of the country, but the rest of us had a great time. We set the starting line over by Tull island and the other buoy over by the dam. The first race got off to a rough start because Outrageous managed to run aground. But she got off and we got the race started. We did a starboard rounding of the buoy. Gecko was way out front with his new sail and crossed the finish line first followed by Little Girl, Matsya and then Outrageous. After handicaps were figured the results remained the same. The second race was a starboard rounding of the little island and then a starboard rounding of the buoy. Once again Gecko finished first followed by Little Girl, Matsya and Outrageous. But the handicapping changed things up with Matsya stealing first, Gecko coming in second, Little Girl third and Ourtrageous fourth. The third race was a port rounding of the buoy. O' by the way somewhere in there Outrageous managed to ground herself in the same spot again. I think we have named a new island. Little Girl tried getting off the starting line going backwards, thought better of it but by then she was trailing behind. Gecko was out front again but Matsya was close behind. Gecko crossed the finish line first again followed by Matsya, Little Girl and Outrageous. Once again Matsya pointed out over Gecko for first with Little Girl getting third and Outrageous fourth. For the final race Little Girl suggested something different. She was tried of sailing into the wind so this course rounded Long Island with a starboard rounding of the island by the State Park and back to the start. Gecko was way off on the back side of the island closer to the mainland and everyone was waiting for her so we could start the race. Everyone was concerned about her getting to the starting area in time but she said she was okay so the timer kept going. The race started and all of a sudden here comes Gecko flying past everyone crossing the starting line first. Matsya was second across and by the time she turned towards Long Island Gecko was no longer in sight. This race made for some interesting sailing as we all chased Gecko. Gecko crossed the finish line first again followed by Matsya, Little Girl and Outrageous. That finished order held up after the handicapping. All in all it was a great day of sailing but everyone was tried and ready to call it a day. The next race day is April 16th and we are looking forward to a great turnout.

OK race fans, the Race Committee Computer imploded earlier this week, so we are just now getting you the update after finding the right parts this AM.
Last Saturdays racing was pretty good considering that we had to wait awhile for the fog to lift. The weather stayed dingy and we all thought it got colder as the day went on. Winds were 4 to 8, mostly out of the south and southeast.
The course started at the harbor buoys with a mark north of the cut. The first race was one time around, port rounding. Sea Fox (single handed by Dennis Ouellette) joined the fleet for the first time this year. Great to have her out there. Rendezvous got her usual good start, but most everyone else were not far behind. Gecko went right for the a-spinnaker, and with luck, managed to keep the wind off her starboard through the cut. Rendezvous made the mark first (of course) with Gecko a few minutes behind. The rest of the fleet were all close getting around the mark. Rendezvous got to the finish first with Gecko 2 minutes behind. They managed to stretch out a good lead over the rest of the group by 14 minutes! After Corrected Time (CT), the finish was: Gecko, Rendezvous, Bogy, Matsya, Little Girl, Sea Fox.
For the second race, with the wind acting like it might lighten up, the course was to the pump out island and back. The race committee thought it might be just a reach out, and a reach back, but it turned out to be anything but a reach trying to get to the mark. The finish was quite a surprise. Bogy beat the 2nd place by 200 seconds!!! Matsya beat Rendezvous by 8 seconds, and Rendezvous beat Gecko by 7 seconds!!! Final CT finish: Bogy, Matsya, Rendezvous, Gecko, Sea Fox, Little Girl.
The third race was back to the buoy out in the lake, starboard rounding. Sea Fox had other business and headed in. Everyone had a good start; Gecko was a bit behind getting her a-spinnaker up before the line, hoping to repeat the first race. Little Girl got her a-spinnaker up in the cut and made a few great jibs with the a-spin. On CT, Bogy again smoked everyone. Gecko edged out Rendezvous by 15 seconds. Final CT finish: Bogy, Gecko, Rendezvous, Matsya, Little Girl.
It was good, close racing. Thanks to everyone for coming out for the Regatta. The next race is pending. The race committee will be in touch with everyone, soon.

Regatta IV Results
Race 1: Rendezvous
Bogy
Matsya
Gecko
Little Girl
Coram Deo
Last Saturday’s Regatta was more like a lesson in Zen and the art of light air sailing. The starting line was set up on the north shore near the boat ramp since we expected south winds. The mark was at the north end of the shut. Winds were something like 2 mph at the start, but enough to sail with. Rendezvous got the momentum going, leading to the mark. Matsya, Bogy, and Gecko rounded the mark side by side, with Coram Deo and Little Girl right behind. But then, the wind shifted to the north (kind of) and tried to completely die at the same time. It was a snail race from there; brutally slow!!! Lots of finesse and holding your tongue right. One had to watch closely to see if Rendezvous was really getting to the finish line.
The racing was cancelled, hoping for better conditions next time.
Regatta III Results
Race 1: Rendezvous, Matsya, Little Girl, Gecko
Race 2: Rendezvous, Gecko, Little Girl, Matsya
Race 3: Matsya, Gecko, Rendezvous, Little Girl
All right race fans, the racing committee finally got its act together and finalized the results of the Oct. 23 regatta. Incredible racing. The winds were out of the south hitting 15 to 20. The starting line was the harbor buoys, with a mark north of the cut. Coram Deo was a no-show; she flat missed it with the heavy winds, her kind of day. Matsya, Little Girl, Rendezvous, and Gecko made the field. Bogy’s captain prudently past up sailing and crewed on Matsya; Dennis Ouelette crewed for the infamous Rendezvous.
The first race was to the buoy and back. Little Girl had some great starts, leading the fleet through the cut. It appeared that the day would be the usual for Rendezvous (taking first in all 3 races). But, Matsya was only 17 seconds behind Rendezvous on corrected time!!! Little Girl had 3rd and Gecko 4th.
The course for the second race used the buoy and Little Island. With the longer distance, Rendezvous nailed everyone the second race. Gecko came in next, Little Girl 3rd, and Matsya 4th.
The third race was more exciting. The course was to the buoy and back. The wind actually lulled, catching Gecko watching everyone leave the starting line headed for the cut. She made up a lot of time later. The finish was really a surprise. Rendezvous bobbled in the bowl heading to the finish and Matsya and Gecko both beat her!!! On corrected time, there was ONE second between Matsya and Gecko. Matsya takes the honor, Gecko second, Rendezvous 3rd, and Little Girl fourth. Yes, Rendezvous can be beaten!!!
The day was a lot of fun, but a lot of work dealing with the heavy wind, just ask Roxann!!!
Next Regatta: November 6, Chili Cook-Off Day!!!

Our second Regatta of the Fall Series was pretty exciting. The start/finish line was the harbor buoys. A mark (buoy) was set north of the shut. Little Island was also used for a mark in the 3rd race. The racing was very close in several races with several boats crowding the mark at one time. In the first race, there were 4 boats that finished within 15 seconds of each other (before corrected time)! In the second, Bogy was ahead of Matsya by only 3 seconds. On corrected times, there was only 30 seconds separating the top 3 boats.
We ran 4 races all total. The wind was supposed to be from the NNE, but, as Rick Moore predicted, the wind was out of the NW until later in the day. We had fair wind most of the time, but there were lulls. In the last race, one of the competitors bounced off the buoy, requiring a 360 (I won’t say who), but it made for some exciting action at the buoy. All in all, it was a good time. The corrected times came out with some surprises, keeping the competition close.

Our first race of the Fall Series got off with good wind out of the NE. The starting line was at the east end of the Humps. Little Girl had a great start and led the way to the first mark (down by the boat loading ramp on the North side). On the down wind leg, the wind dropped. Little Girl lost her advantage in spite of getting her spinnaker up, as did Corem Deo. Gecko got to the finish first. On corrected time, it was Gecko, Bogy, Matsya, Little Girl, and Coram Deo.
The second race had winds good at times, and bad at others. The course was around Small Island two times. Gecko got to the finish first, but Bogy was not far behind, and won on corrected time. Little Girl had a good third, but got snaked by Matsya on corrected time. Final corrected finish: Bogy, Gecko, Matsya, Little Girl, Coram Deo.
The wind continued to drop for the third race. The course was one time around Small Island. Matsya had switched to a 150 jib on the second race, and it paid off for the third. The light wind favored the smaller boats. The final finish: Gecko, Matsya, Bogy, Little Girl, and Coram Deo.
Little Girl was routinely putting up the spinnaker all day, working Roxann pretty hard. But, the light winds did not favor her and Coram Deo. Coram Deo had a mystery crew member who I hope we see more of. All in all, we had a great time and lots of fun.
Don’t forget, THIS SATURDAY, 10/2/2010, Regatta II of the Fall Series.
Good luck and prayers for Zoe.
